“Creating a Voice for Young Entrepreneurs in Palestine”
On Thursday 26 June, 2008 the Young Entrepreneurs Palestine (YEP) in partnership with Friedrich Naumann Foundation-Jerusalem organized the 9th workshop titled “Creating a Voice for Young Entrepreneurs in Palestine: Young Entrepreneurs Role in Shaping the Socio-economic Development of Palestine” with the participation of Dr. Sameer Abdullah – Minister of Planning, Mr. Mousa Abu-Zaid- Deputy Minister- Ministry of Youth and Sport, Mrs. Shuaa Murar- Director General of Riyada Consulting and Training Company, and Mr. Hazem Kawasmi –the Vice-President of Young Entrepreneurs Palestine (YEP). The workshop -held in the Best Eastern Hotel in Ramallah- attended by a significant number of young business owners, young entrepreneurs and representatives of public, private and civil society organizations in Palestine.
The aim of the workshop was to discuss the development efforts of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in assisting young entrepreneurs to succeed in their endeavors with focus on linking the efforts of PA and Donors relief interventions with long-term development objectives, as well as building the required institutional capacity for promoting entrepreneurialship.

The Minister of Planning, Dr. Abdullah, addressed the current activities of the Ministry of Planning in supporting young entrepreneurs mentioning that the Palestinian Reform and Development Plan (PRDP) for the coming years (2008-2010) has a considerable number of programs to empower young men and women in business activities. He pointed that the current PA efforts adds to the role of private sector support institutions in enhancing the small enterprise’s ability to withstand the crisis, and meeting their long-term development needs.

The workshop recommended the organization of the first conference on Entrepreneurship in Palestine to guide policymakers and stakeholders in drafting a comprehensive plan in the field of entrepreneurship to drive Palestine’s young men and women to play an active role in the overall economic growth in Palestine.
