The project is intended to graduate a number of very poor Palestinian families from deep poverty through targeting families’ young entrepreneurs. This project will assist 45 poor young entrepreneurs from the South Hebron region and rural areas in Nablus and the project will also directly benefit to their families.
The selection mechanism was based on the idea that beneficiaries are indeed poor but in the same time motivated enough to engage in self-employment and developing income-generating micro enterprises.
Recently, 26 poor entrepreneurs participated in an integrated training program that combined entrepreneurial training and guidance in the preparation of viable business plans.
Palestinians living in the Occupied Palestinian Territory are going through an unprecedented economic and humanitarian crisis. According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Poverty Report released in 2007, 58% of the Palestinian population live below the poverty line, half of them, in extreme poverty (on less than 2$ per day). According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), there has been a systemic decline in GDP especially that of the private sector, with 21% in 2007, compared to the same period in 2005. Recognising that poor young entrepreneurs and their families lack access to financial resources to start their own enterprises, YEP through DEEP program is proposing remedy to this situation through the provision of technical and financial services. As a result, this project will contribute to promote sustainable economic development and increase job opportunities for young in the targeted areas, which have been described as the poorest regions in West Bank. | |
